Benefits

One of the benefits that SCS Risk Management (SCSRM) has to offer is that they are one of the state’s oldest joint powers authorities (JPA) – a not for profit organization where public schools, regional occupational programs and community colleges share and manage their risk exposures through pooling.  We strongly believe in that by pooling, members benefit through improved efficiencies, greatly reduced ancillary products and services, and lower, predictable fixed operating expenses. It is through this pool that insurance coverage is afforded alongside risk management programs that support schools in achieving a safe learning and work environment.

The focus of SCSRM is on risk reduction through property, general liability, workers’ compensation and construction coverage.  In addition, a host of loss-prevention services are designed to control claims and costs while empowering districts with tools to maintain their programs through inspections, training, awareness programs and access to a cadre of service providers that work with public school and community college entities.  SCSRM combines the use of re-insurance, self-insurance, fully insured and traditional insurance programs. In addition, SCSRM creates buffers so that school districts are not penalized by assessments. By utilizing the “most favorable” risk financing options available, our members are insulated from the cyclical effects of the traditional insurance marketplace.

In addition, SCSRM makes the following services and resources available to its members, regardless of programs at reduced or no cost:

  • Hazardous Materials and Emergency Release Support and Consulting
  • Indoor Air Quality Toolkit and Consultation
  • On-site Safety and Loss Control Assessments
  • Resource Guides for Schools (topical overviews of many risk control, safety issues, and best practices including forms)
  • Quarterly Risk Control Committee Meetings for Safety Personnel
  • Safety and Loss Control Consultation
  • Electronic Weekly Safety Chats
